About James J. Watkins's Work
Research in our group involves the synthesis, characterization, and utilization of nanoscale and hybrid materials and the fabrication of devices that exploit the unique properties of the materials created. One approach involves additive-driven self-assembly in which interactions among each of the components of a hybrid material are designed so as to overcome barriers to creating well-ordered systems containing high concentrations of nanoparticles, nanorods, fullerenes or functional organics. A second effort involves the development of new materials sets for nanoimprint lithography that enable the direct printing of crystalline, nanostructured metal oxide device structures for applications in advanced optics, energy storage, sensors and electronics.
