About Raghu Ramakrishnan's Work

I am CTO for Data and a Technical Fellow at Microsoft, and previously served as Chief Scientist at Yahoo! and Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in addition to founding QUIQ, an early online crowd-sourced question-answering company. My work in database systems has influenced query optimization in commercial database systems and the design of window functions in SQL:1999, and includes papers that received the SIGMOD Test-of-Time Award for work on clustering and the ICDT Test-of-Time Award for work on nearest-neighbor indexing. I have written the widely used text “Database Management Systems”. At Yahoo!, I led the CORE project for delivering personalized portal pages, the PNUTS geo-replicated cloud service, and web-scale information extraction for Yahoo! Search. At Microsoft, I led the development of Azure Data Lake, Microsoft’s exabyte-scale storage and analytics platform.
