About Benjamin J. McCall's Work
After 14 years as a professor of chemistry, astronomy, and physics working on a combination of laboratory spectroscopy of molecular ions and astronomical observations of interstellar molecules, I have switched fields to focus on sustainability. This switch was motivated by my growing awareness of the critical challenges facing humanity in what one might call the four E’s: ecology, economy, energy, and equity. I am currently executive director of the Hanley Sustainability Institute at the University of Dayton. In that role, I work to advance campus sustainability, sustainability education, transdisciplinary research and scholarship in sustainability, and community engagement related to sustainability and resilience. I am also working to develop a national network of scholars from various disciplines who are cognizant of the challenges of the four E’s (e4scholars.net).
