About Leslie F. Greengard's Work

A major focus of my work has been the development of “fast algorithms” for particle simulations, wave propagation, and heat flow. These algorithms (such as the Fast Mutipole Method) are now used in electromagnetic and acoustic design, quantum chemistry and a variety of other application areas. For the last few decades, I have been working on the creation of a new generation of fast solvers for modeling elasticity, fluid dynamics and electromagnetic scattering that are geometrically flexible, high-order accurate, robust and automatic. In recent years, I have also been working on cryo-electron microscopy and inverse acoustic scattering, as well as the analysis of electrophysiological data in neuroscience.
