Local Grantmaking

How To Get Support

Before applying, we recommend you review the Local Grantmaking FAQ for more information on our program and processes.

Step 1: Has your organization received a grant from the Packard Foundation within the last three years?

Organizations that have not received a Packard Foundation grant within the last three years should proceed to step two. Organizations that have received a Packard Foundation grant within the last three years should contact local@packard.org for information on the application process for full proposals.

Step 2: Submit your letter of inquiry

The LOI should be no more than three pages and should include a brief description of the history of your organization, the people and constituencies served, the funding request, three key objectives, and three measurable outcomes of your request.

Please submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) using our online form. If you need assistance during the process, please call Local Grantmaking staff at (650) 917-7234.

Although our preference is for organizations to use our online LOI form, if you are unable to apply online, you may submit your LOI using one of the following methods:

Email: local@packard.org

Regular mail:
David and Lucile Packard Foundation
Attn: Local Grantmaking
343 Second Street
Los Altos, CA 94022

The LOI should be no more than three pages and should include a brief description of the history of your organization, the people and constituencies served, the funding request, three key objectives, and three measurable outcomes of your request.

If you submit your LOI online or by email you’ll receive immediate confirmation of receipt. We will acknowledge receipt of LOIs sent by regular mail within three weeks of receipt.

Step 3: Response to letter of inquiry

Staff members review each LOI carefully to determine whether or not it fits within current program guidelines and priorities. Applicants typically receive a response to their LOI within three to six weeks.

If your LOI suits the program goals, you will be asked to submit a full proposal and given further details about completing the application process at that time.
