Bernadette Sangalang is the Packard Foundation’s Children and Families director, working to improve equitable outcomes in maternal health and support healthy development for children in their earliest years. Her over 30 years of experience spans across philanthropy, research institutions, and community-based organizations, where she has worked on critical issues such as maternal and child health, early childhood development, child welfare, and access to health and social services.

Bernadette received her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and postdoctoral training in Public Health at University of California at Berkeley. She also holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley.

When she’s not working, Bernadette enjoys exploring neighborhoods both near and far.
