Alberto Ortega Hinojosa is the data and insights officer at The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, where he leads the Foundation’s data insights practice to support strategic decision-making. A member of the Evaluation & Learning and Information Technology teams, Alberto manages the Foundation’s strategy monitoring and reporting systems, ensuring staff and partners have timely access to actionable insights. His role is cross-functional, supporting foundation-wide efforts, including co-leading enterprise data governance and the responsible integration of generative AI, positioning the Foundation at the forefront of innovation in philanthropy.

With over 18 years of experience spanning philanthropy, public health, and policy evaluation, Alberto is a recognized leader in translating complex data into actionable strategies that support systems change and promote population well-being. Previously, as Principal Researcher at the American Institutes for Research, he led impactful federal and local initiatives focused on health equity, chronic disease prevention, and public health policy.

Alberto holds a Ph.D. and M.P.H. in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley and a B.A. from Yale University. As a systems thinker passionate about equity, innovation, and storytelling, Alberto is dedicated to using data and emerging technologies as forces for good to advance the Foundation’s mission and foster sustainable impact in communities around the world.
