Fostering Social and Emotional Health through Pediatric Primary Care: A Blueprint for Leveraging Medicaid and CHIP to Finance Change

Nearly half of children under age three in the United States get their health insurance through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). With such broad reach, these public programs are critical to finance effective practices that advance optimal child development. As part of the Pediatrics Supporting Parents initiative, this Blueprint presents five strategies and tools states and managed care organizations can use to optimize the social and emotional development of young children though reimbursement and quality improvement opportunities under Medicaid/CHIP.
