The Federates States of Micronesia stretch across approximately 607 islands and vast ocean resources—representing one of the largest declared exclusive economic zones in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean—that provide the country with a steady source of revenue from fishing access fees. In addition to providing revenue to the government, these resources are of vital importance for food, livelihoods, and traditional cultures. This report assesses enabling conditions for community-driven, rights-based management approaches to coastal marine resources management in FSM–Pohnpei and looks at opportunities to improve the management of fisheries resources for the region.
