Today the Packard Foundation announced Chief Investment Officer (CIO) John Moehling will retire at the end of this calendar year. Kimberly Sargent will move from her current role as Senior Managing Director to CIO on January 1, 2018.
Moehling joined the Foundation in 2007 as the Foundation’s first Chief Investment Officer. During this time, John recruited an Investments team and built an institutional-quality portfolio of select investment managers. “John built our investment function from scratch, hired an exceptional team and delivered outstanding results,” said Ned Barnholt, Trustee and Chair of the Investment Committee. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Foundation staff, I thank John for his hard work and dedication to the Foundation’s mission and goals and wish him all the best in his retirement.”
Kimberly Sargent joined the Foundation in 2008, initially focusing on building the Foundation’s hedge fund portfolio and quickly took on additional responsibilities across the portfolio and team. Today, Sargent serves as the Senior Managing Director of the Foundation Investments team, focusing on marketable alternatives and playing a strategic role across the portfolio. Previously, Sargent was a consultant with McKinsey & Company serving financial institutions on various projects and as a senior analyst at the Yale Investments Office. In 2016, she was a member of the inaugural class of the Finance Leaders Fellowship of the Aspen Institute. She holds an M.B.A. from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, a B.A. from Yale University magna cum laude, and is a CFA charter holder.

She has deep knowledge and understanding of investments and the Foundation. She will be working with John for the remainder of the year to assure a smooth transition.”
