Laguna San Ignacio is the last undeveloped nursery and breeding ground for Pacific gray whales. A 116-square mile industrial salt plant was proposed for development next to the lagoon. Together, Defensa Ambiental del Noroeste, International Community Foundation, Natural Resources Defense Council, ProNatura Noroeste, and WiLDCOAST/COSTASALVAjE worked with local communities and Mexico’s Federal Government to save the lagoon from development.
