Makeda Barr-Brown (she/they) joined the David and Lucile Packard Foundation in 2021 as a Program Assistant for the Grants Process Management Team. Makeda provides grantmaking and operations support to various programs across the Foundation. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and minors in Africana Studies, Cinema and Media Studies, and History. As a part of her studies, Makeda spent the Fall of 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa studying South African politics and history, as well as volunteering in a local township. Prior to joining the Packard Foundation, Makeda worked with the Center for the Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania as an Administrative Coordinator and with Climb Hire, an education nonprofit in the Bay Area, as their Special Projects Lead.
