Carlin Johnson Politzer

Carlin joined the Packard Foundation in July 2017 as Associate Program Officer. She is responsible for grantmaking, coordinating special projects, compiling research, and supporting communication connected to the Office of the President.

Prior to joining the Foundation, she was Managing Director of Innovate Foundation, where she led the investment process and managed a portfolio of innovative nonprofits focused on closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their more affluent peers. She has also served as a consultant and advisor to major Silicon Valley corporations on their education philanthropy and initiatives.

Carlin began her career with Teach For America, first as a corps member in Compton, California, and then as a national staff member in Chicago and New York City. She has also served as a mental health clinician with children and youth in foster care in San Francisco, as a Community School Director in the Redwood City School District, and as the Executive Director of Summer Search Silicon Valley in San Jose.

Carlin was a fellow of Community Leadership San Jose, founded the Bay Area chapter of the Teach For America alumni network, and has served on the boards of Teach For America Bay Area as well as Mini Infant Center/Palo Alto Community Child Care. She currently sits on the board of Learn Fresh Education Company. Carlin holds a BS in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University and a Masters in Social Work from The University of Michigan; she is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California.
