The goal of this subprogram is to to build publicly sustainable systems that promote enriched, extended-learning opportunities for elementary- and middle-school-aged children which are well implemented and become a platform for expansion into summer enrichment.
The Foundation seeks to leverage public, community, and philanthropic resources to develop a statewide technical assistance framework, build and support the after-school workforce, and support leaders to advance after-school and summer programs by collaborating within and across networks, and expand after-school programs into summer.
What We Fund
Our grantmaking seeks to ensure standards of excellence in the after-school field and support the development of sustainable public and private funding models and mechanisms.
Our approach involves a multi-pronged and integrated set of strategies that include:

Promoting the expansion and strengthening of the technical assistance (TA) system

Advancing creative solutions to address workforce challenges in after-school programs

Investing in the leadership infrastructure of after-school system leaders to support opportunities for innovation, learning, and continuous improvement; and

Supporting the development of a sustainability plan to ensure the after-school system has adequate fiscal resources.
As part of our Local Grantmaking, the Foundation also provides support to youth-serving organizations in San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties. Please check out the Local Grantmaking guidelines.
