The goal of the Preschool for California's Children subprogram is to achieve access to voluntary, high-quality preschool for all three- and four-year-olds in the state, starting with the children who need it most.
What We Fund
- Advocacy: Expand and strengthen statewide advocacy efforts and engage a diverse cross-section of groups in support of preschool (including the business sector, organized labor, communities of color, and K–12 and early educators).
-
Research: Support further research on topics related to ensuring preschool for California's children.
-
Best Practices in Target Communities: Provide ongoing support to local preschool efforts in selected target communities that demonstrate the promise of high-quality preschool when implemented on a large scale.

Geographic Focus
To maximize the effectiveness of our Preschool for California's Children grantmaking, our grants are directed primarily to organizations in California.
What We Do Not Fund
The Foundation does not fund attempts to influence specific legislation or ballot measures. We also do not fund direct service programs (i.e., individual child care centers, preschools, or schools), individual facility construction or renovation, or research that does not have a central goal of helping to achieve preschool for every child.
