Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) was incorporated in 1987 as a world-class oceanography research center. Developed through the vision of David Packard and leading oceanographic scientists, MBARI supports cutting-edge research and development in oceanography through a dynamic collaboration of science, engineering, operations, and information dissemination.

Applying new areas of technology to the exploration of the oceans is the cornerstone of the MBARI research agenda, executed through the development of remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), advanced instrumentation for chemical analysis, and computer science and communication.

Our Foundation supports 75 percent of the institution's annual budget, as well as providing funds for new facilities. For more information, please visit the institute's Web site at www.mbari.org.
